Oregano is native to the mediterranean and it’s a herb that enjoys a lot of sunshine. Oregano will need frequent trimmings to keep it bushy and lush. Dry leaves have a stronger flavour than fresh leaves. Oregano is also usually disease and pest free.
How do I Grow Oregano
Although growing Oregano from seed is possible, it's timely. We recommend finding a transplant from your local nursery.
However, if you decide to start form seed, they must be started 4-6 weeks before the last spring frost, and the divisions can be transplanted out into your container when the temperature is 45 F (7 C). Oregano plants will need to be divided every 2-3 years.
Be sure to prune your woody Orgeano all the way back to 2" in the spring time. This will encourage lush, bushy summer growth.
Once in bloom it attracts beneficials. It grows well with other herbs.

Harvest your oregano anytime during the summer months. Cut their stems back to a pair of leaves as this will help encourage new branches to grow. Be sure not to take more than 1/3 of the plant at a time. You get the best flavour is when the buds have just formed and before they flower.
Preparing and using
If you’re planning on using oregano for cooking purposes, make sure to add it to your meals near the last few minutes of cooking because it will lose its flavour if add it to your dish too soon. Dried oregano goes well with tomatoes or rice dishes.
