Rosemary is a great mediterranean herb to add to your garden. It is a relatively unfussy plant, that is pretty much friends with everyone in the garden. It usually blooms in the late summer in pink, white or blue. It adds a great fragrance and texture, not to mention all the uses in the kitchen.
How Do I Grow Rosemary?
Rosemary prefers to be planted by root cuttings, stem layering or most simply a transplant from your local nursery. Growing from seed can be a bit finicky and slow going. If you do decide to plant from seed start indoors in late winter, early spring. Sow your seeds ¼” deep and cover lightly with soil. Invest in a heat map to keep soil warm during the germination period (usually 21 days), and mist instead of top water. The first few weeks for your rosemary will be extremely slow growing, be patient!
Harvest Rosemary year round, but be aware in the winter your rosemary will be not regenerate. If you live somewhere colder than zone 7 try planting in a pot and bringing it indoors for the winter.
Give the entire plant a short haircut as needed, be sure not to take more than ⅓ of the plant at a time. Keep on top of your harvest to encourage bushy growth.
