Spring: Wild Herbs

This is one of the most versatile plans you can plant. Herbs perform many functions not only in the kitchen but nutritionally. Use them to spice up a soup, as a garnish or to kick a cold.

With only a few variations from season to season, this plan, for the most part, is perennial. You will get years of use from the majority of the plants if cared for correctly. Keep on top of your pruning and harvests to avoid large plants splitting or taking over your container.

If you already have some of these planted, early spring is the time for a hard prune on your woody herbs (rosemary, thyme etc). You can cut the entire plant back to 2" from the soil to encourage more lush growth in the coming season.
