It depends on the weather, and the growth stage of your garden. In Vancouver, we fill the reservoirs 8-12 times per year. The watering schedule is roughly 1-2x per month during the Spring and Fall, and weekly during the Summer months. However, we always encourage our clients to make Garden maintenance a weekly routine. This way not only will your garden always have water in the reservoir, but you can stay on top of harvests and ensure your plants are happy.

 Nope! That's half the beauty of Self-Watering. It's very easy to fill your reservoir then head off for a week of fun without water worries - even longer during the Spring and Fall. If you'll be away longer than a week during the Summer, you may want to consider having a friend come by and water once a week while you're away - but that sure beats everyday twice a day!

Raw cedar is a beautiful wood with a very high natural oil content that makes it highly resilient to the elements. With proper care, raw cedar can last outdoors for generations. However, our stained and finished gardens add another layer of protection that reduce UV damage while adding an aesthetic style that many of our clients feel bring our gardens to the next level.

Absolutely. We have our gardens installed in cold climates throughout North America. The endurance and flexibility of Western Cedar can hold up even under the coldest conditions. The SIP.tech Self-watering system is likewise designed to expand and contract even if the soil and reservoir freeze solid. It is however suggested, that if you can move your gardens undercover, or cover your gardens in some way during the deep cold winter months, you will prolong the aesthetics and lifespan of your garden.

It is not suggested. Because of the vertical nature of the Canopy, it can become top heavy when moved, and because we don't want it to tip over, we don't suggest putting it on casters/wheels.

We use vermiculite in our in house organic soil blend. It's a natural stone from the earth that is heated to such a high temperature that it pops like popcorn and becomes very water absorbent. It's not necessary for the Self-Watering function of our gardens - but it certainly helps! Because it is inert and doesn't break down or decompose over time, it makes the ideal material to act as the wick in the SIP.tech self-watering system.
